Description
Albumin is a protein secreted by the liver cells. Its main function is to prevent the fluid leakage from blood vessels into other tissues. Deficiency of albumin in the body can lead to leakage of fluid out of blood vessels and build up in lungs, abdomen (belly), or other parts of the body.
Albumin (human) injections are available to be used in treating low blood volume (hypovolemia), low albumin levels in the blood (hypoalbuminemia) & hypoalbuminemia. Albumin is also used as a priming fluid during cardiopulmonary bypass surgery.
